The NCMA Research and Development Laboratory is dedicated to the scientific testing and research of manufactured concrete products and systems. Staffed by professional engineers and technicians with many years of experience in the material testing, the Laboratory is equipped to perform nearly any physical testing of concrete masonry and hardscape units, other manufactured concrete products, and assemblies.

The Laboratory performs research and development work for both the Association and individual companies. The Laboratory staff is also available for consultation on developing a research program to demonstrate the performance characteristics of a specific material, product or system.

The Laboratory has capabilities that include:

  • Product certification testing for concrete masonry units, segmental retaining wall units, concrete pavers, articulating concrete brick, manufactured stone veneer, and other units;
  • Material testing of aggregates, masonry mortar, and masonry grout;
  • Assembly testing, including masonry prisms, structural wall assemblies, water and air penetration, shear bond strength, and SRW connection and shear strength;
  • Production research services utilizing the state-of-the-art NCMA Unit Production Facility,
  • And more!

Many members of NCMA already take advantage of the Laboratory’s masonry testing expertise for quality assurance and product certification testing.

The NCMA Research and Development Laboratory is an International Accreditation Service (IAS) Accredited Testing Laboratory. The Laboratory is accredited in accordance with the International Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005.
